October 2021 Photography
Wohoo! Fall was finally here…was my thought at the beginning of this month. A long hot summer and frost free nights delayed the peak fall colors until practically the end of this month. But that didn’t stop me from making the most of this season while it was here.
Here are the photography highlights for October!
Another Publication
To start things off, the month started with the excitement of getting another one of my photographs published in the reader’s gallery of Photography Masterclass Magazine. A little funny as one of my winter landscapes from this year made it into an issue of which the focus was fall color, but hey, the timing is close enough for me.
Chasing Fall in the North
In my efforts to get as much fall photography in as possible this year, the first weekend of Autumn brought me to the Leelenau Peninsula. One long drive up to the north, and I didn’t find much color up there yet despite the early fall color predictions I’ve been following online. Nevertheless, I made the most of the day up there.
A Day in Ludington
The following weekend, I hit up the Ludington area for some more photography in line with the Autumn color predictions, but it was still not too exciting in terms of fall color. With a few bits and pieces of fall landscapes here and there, the day became more about the lakeshore dunes and lighthouses in the area.
Bridges, Castles, and Capitols
Not having too much luck along the lakeshore the past two weekends, I spent the next outing going more inland. The fall color was a little better further inland, but it truly wasn’t peak just yet, so while I got a little fall color in, this excursion was more about the different locations that I wanted to get to for the first time in my life (at least as a photographer). First I took a drive out to White’s Bridge, passing by to check out Curwood Castle. After that, I stoped at the state capitol building to get a shot of it for the mosaic project, and also to say that I’ve been there (as an adult). After a brief stop at the capitol, the final destination for the day was to Fitzgerald Park to check out the ledges along the Grand River. Admittedly these were a little bit Photoshopped, but that’s what makes photography fun, processing images into the vision you sought out.
