August/September 2021 Photography
It’s been a while since I’ve written a photo blog, so this time around I’m combining two months into one. In terms of photography during this time, I spent far more time processing images than I typically do, and that is because in August I took my annual trip up to the Upper Peninsula where I shot thousands of images to add to my portfolio, as well as to the mosaic project. But after finishing the the large project, I made sure to get back out there to enjoy the world after a long hiatus from shooting.
So without further adu, here are the photographic highlights from August and September.
A bit of Nighttime Photography
Shortly before going on the trip to the U.P., I have been spending a lot of my time out at the campground as I usually do during August every year, but I had a few nights where I had the opportunity to take some great shots of the night sky. Some of them were full of power of passing storms, and others where filled with awe and wonder. The only thing that kept me from staying up in the wee hours of the night where the unsettling sounds of creatures in the night (have you ever heard the scream of a fox at night? It is very unsettling).
A Grand Adventure
It wasn’t long after the few night time shoots that my trip to the U.P. that I had be excitedly waiting for had finally arrived. In short, I traveled just over 2,000 miles from Holland, MI, up throughout the U.P., into Wisconsin, and back through the U.P. as I returned home. Rather than post the 170 final images I created from the trip in this blog post, you can click on either of the images below to go to the official portfolio for the trip itself.
As part of this trip, I made sure to add several of the Michigan based photographs from this trip to my Mosaic project as well. Needless to say, I put a pretty good dent in the project over those six days of adventuring.
A Day in Grand Haven
After finishing the work on the U.P. Road Trip, I had a tiny gap in my mosaic project that I was saving for a better shot of the Grand Haven lighthouse. Yes, I’ve taken photos of the lighthouse before, but it was years ago back in my college days, and I wanted the photos in this mosaic to be more recent in the post college days, so a return visit was in order for September.
Misc. Macro Photography
I picked up an accessory to magnify my macro photography, so I tested it out this month on a spider that I caught.
A Quick trip South
To close out the month, I took a trip down to Van Buren and Kalamazoo counties to hit up a few places on my to do list. I captured some great shots and the beach, and even caught a few hints of the beginnings of Fall as well.
