In my career as a photographer, I have had the opportunity to travel to Alaska twice, once in 2013, and again in 2022. Both visits were to Palmer, AK to work with InterAct Ministries on mission trips organized through my church in Holland. While the focus on these trips were missions work, the photographer in me couldn’t help but make the most of the trip in that sense as well.
Both trips involved similar work, and also similar play. In 2013, some of the places we visited included the Matanuska Glacier and River, The Butte, Thunderbird Falls, Hatcher’s Pass, the gulf shores around Anchorage, and a stop at the Iditarod facilities in the area. Then in 2022, we revisited some of those places again, and added a trip to Seward to the portfolio, and also a private flight on a bush plane to fly over the mountains and glaciers for some aerial views of the Last Frontier!
