Fall 2023 Photography/East Side Trip
Welcome everybody! Here is part 2 of my catch up blogs to make up for my rather quiet summer (in terms of this blog). Well, this year wasn’t the greatest autumn I’ve ever had, the colors were kind of late, and when they came they were quite rusty in tone. However, I already had booked hotels to take a fall color trip to the east side of the state, so we had to make the most of it. That’s not to say I found no fall colors at all while I was over there, but in the areas where things were still mostly green, I found other subjects to photograph.

For my Fall photography this year, I took a 4 day weekend to the east side to explore some new places and fill in some of the blanks in my mosaic projects. Both going to and coming from the east side of the state, I made stops to various parks and landmarks in the center of the state, then cherry picked a bunch of locations from the tip of the thumb down to the outskirts of the Detroit area.

While in the area, the partial solar eclipse of October 2023 started to hit its peak. Thankfully to a helpful fellow hiker that day, she reminded me that it was happening and I was able to get these shots from the parking lot.

After the 4 day weekend, I didn’t want to waste the few weekends left to me to capture fall color this year, so I made two other day trips to capture it before it faded to gray. This results in visits to Seidman Park and TK Lawless Park, not only to capture the color, but also to fill in those last two holes in the mosaic that have been taunting me in the West Michigan area of my project for a while now. Feels good to have that section finally completed. Along with that, a surprise snowfall on Halloween night offered up the chance to blend the two seasons together for one night of photography bliss.
After the fall colors have passed, the remainder of the season kept my photographic gears going with the occasional critter strolling through the field behind my house.
Now with the passing of fall, we are now in that slow transition into Winter. Once the weather truly kicks into gear and consistently gives me that white gold, I will be exploring the winter wonderland of the Mitten state once again! To close the blog, for the past few years I’ve made it a point to make at least 1 version of one of my recent photographs that has a bible verse that fits the scene. So here is a drop of all the bible verse images I made through the summer and fall.
