March 2023 Photography

In terms of my photography, March was both a busy month, and yet a little light on the getting out of the house for photography.  We’re in that time of year where Michigan cant decide what season it’s in (at least where I live), so getting outside hasn’t been the most inspiring.  Instead I spent most of my weekends in my home studio preparing new inventory for upcoming art markets.  A lot of the preparations I’ve made have included a restock of my vinyl stickers, a little bit of miscellaneous printing to even out the genres of my inventory, and then a massive amount of Tulip Time prints to prepare for the art market during the festival.

But I did get out a little bit this month to take photos, so here’s the highlights of March!

Backyard Sightings

This month Michigan couldn’t decide if it wanted to be winter, or the weird in between season where the landscapes are kind of “blah” to me.  I considered one weekend taking a day trip up to the Traverse City area to find a few late season snowy landscapes, but of course that day it decided to rain all day to the point where it didn’t sound appealing.  Besides the main highlight of the month, here are a few shots I took in the backyard when we had one decent snowfall, and also on another day when my local herd of deer decided to come out and give me a good show.

My Annual Butterfly Pilgrimage

As a standing appointment for myself to see how I could try to tackle photography a little differently and see how I can improve upon myself, I went to the butterfly exhibit this month at Meijer Garden.  This year I didn’t do much different from past years, but this does mark my first year shooting the butterflies with my first mirrorless camera, so I took it easy this year and just had fun with it.  My day at the gardens is split into 3 categories, plants, birds, and of course, butterflies.
