February 2021 Photography

February 2021 Photography Highlights

Another month of winter has passed, and soon we’ll be moving into spring.  Admittedly, I wasn’t as active in February as I was last month, but I still made sure to get out from time to time, and I even made some images that I’ve never made before.

Before we get into the highlights, I will soon be getting into the Art Show and Craft Market seasons of the year.  You can see a list of the upcoming events here.

A New Achievement

Back in August I started subscribing to Photography Masterclass Magazine, which features a Reader’s Gallery where subscribers can submit their photographs to be featured.  Around that time, I took a stab at getting in with a recent photo I took of a bald eagle, and I was accepted! I found out about a month after the submission, and then in the February 2021 issue, my photo made its debut! That is a first time for me, and hopefully I can get a few more in in the future.

Winter Landscapes

I didn’t get out as much in February as winter started to ramp up to the Michigan standard and I opted on a few weekends to stay warm rather than risk the roads with my not so reliable car.

As a fun side note, in 2020 I paid off my student debt, and then proceeded to upgrade a lot of my photography gear.  This month, I made the leap and upgraded my ride to an AWD SUV.  So maybe that added confidence on the road will get me out more, like I intended.

More Birdwatching

When the winter landscapes didn’t inspire me, I at least can keep my eyes open for wildlife, and in the case of February, new birds!

The finds I had on my excursions this month featured some previously encountered birds, like the Mergansers and a Barred Owl.  But this month I captured some species of duck that either I’ve heard of before but never encountered myself, or I’ve straight up never heard of them before.  Either way, I’ve added both of those species to my portfolio this month for the first time ever: The Common Goldeneye Duck, and the Long-Tailed Duck.  For me, capturing a great wildlife shot or a new species in the wild, it’s like a shot of adrenaline for a photographer like me.

Playing with my Food

I continued to do more photography with my mother’s recipes and goodies this month.
