September 2022 Photography
It’s been another slow photography month for me. I’m not sure what it was about this summer, but I was feeling more relaxation than action this year compared to the past. That isn’t to say that my camera was collecting dust this month though; so rather than neglect another post this month, I’d at least share a short one for September, so here are this month’s highlights!
Some more Neighborhood Critters
As we transition to a new season of the year, the wildlife of my neighborhood has been active in fresh ways for the year. The deer as always were present in the field, but the turkeys we’ve had in years past have made their reappearance. While shooting the birds (not for my Thanksgiving meal mind you), I also had some signs of life dancing around my feet as well.
Then later in the month I found some of the wildlife in my own house. I caught a Labyrinth Spider in my room when I was cleaning one day, and I took the opportunity to learn a new technique with my new camera. The R7 comes with a Focus Bracketing feature than I haven’t had in previous cameras, so I played around with that and was able to quickly take 150 photos at different points of focus without manually clicking the shutter and refocusing between shots. Admittedly it took a few tries because the spider wouldn’t hold still, but eventually I got a complete set of images. I only used about 50 of the shots in the group, but I stitched them together in Photoshop to create this incredibly sharp image of this tiny creature. Not bad for a first attempt, and there’s room for improvement (the tiny hairs didn’t help with the processing I think), but overall I love this shot.
Shooting the Moon
We can thank Amazon for this one, because if I didn’t get a notice on my phone of a delivery at 10 p.m. one night, I would have never walked outside to discover the cloud patterns around the moon. I quickly rushed for my camera, knowing that time was fleeting, and captured these images. Some of them are double exposures stitched together, but that made for some gorgeous shots from that night. At least I think they’re gorgeous, along with a lot of Facebook love received, so I think I’m not totally biased in saying that.
A Garden Photo Shoot
My sister-in-law asked if I could take some photos of her garden flowers one day when I happened to take the day off from work. It was a gorgeous day when she asked me, so it worked out perfectly. I did a little bit of shooting with the wide angle zoom to start, then eventually switched to my macro lens to do some close ups as well.
